Image by Jemal No, it's not a good use of my money at this point, but I don't much care. It makes me feel good and emphasizes to the world (and Sierra in particular) how important Kellie was and always will be in my life. Ronnie at Art With a Pulse Tattoo modified the Heart-Kellie-Rose that he did for our 8th anniversary last February by adding the Always and Forever above and below, the leaves around the heart, the teal background, and a few highlights and modifications to what was already there. The "Always & Forever" was our little thing that went at the bottom of every card we sent each other and usually followed any "game of who loves more than whom." There are still a bunch of blood spots in this photo and because it kinda wraps around my puny forearm, it's hard to get every last bit in a picture, but I like it. It has the classic style I like, and it moves me one step closer to a sleeve. Next up, each kid's name on each wrist. Maybe part of a band or something - I'll figure it out.

Image by puck90 I was at a karaoke bar for Jim Sabo's birthday. When this dude realized I was trying to take a picture of his tatt he pulled his tank top off so I could get a better shot. Unfortunately my battery ran down so I couldn't get both tattoos. I think it's important to note that it is Feburary 1st and people are wearing tank tops.

New tattoo after 1st session
Image by evil angela 4 hours of work on my second tattoo, and it looks great so far! This is original artwork from my artist, whom is amazing, with this image used as the inspiration. The shell at the bottom is for my partner, Chelle, and the idea was for a goddess to be rising up out of the shell. It's now been finished, too! Note: Image levels adjusted with Paint.net to account for dim lighting, so there are some artifacts and slightly off colors because of it.

We were told that about 5,000 passed thru the gates today (Saturday), such is the popularity of tatts and bodyart in Sydney, Australia. There were a lot more tattoos than regular bodypainting. Most of the stall holders were really friendly, and most invited the positive media attention also. The pro wrestling thanks to Greg "TNT" Bounds and his stable of brawlers was one of the highlights for us, as it provided some exciting action to fill out that day. We witnessed an impressive wrestling match between Ben (Iron Jay) Coles VS Gladiator Apollo, that featured both technical wrestling and brawling. After the match they both shook hands, did some off the record interviews and posed for photos (which came very naturally for them). Back to the regular stalls... "Stone Cold" Steve Austin from WWE fame would have been proud to hear that skulls were on display (not real ones as far as we know, but quite a few hardcore bikers were on site). There was lots of body jewellery and detailed masterpieces, on many parts of the human body. We saw hundreds of tattoos and piercings, some of which were a bit scary looking. The customised skateboards and skatedecks at NSP were ultra cool, and it was great to see that they were raising money for some kids that had been doing it tough, so we took some pictures of their cool creations and made a modest donation. It was the fourth annual Show and more than 300 Australian and international artists strutted their stuff, and they will be doing the same again Sunday (tomorrow). Big thank you to the organisers of Sydney Tattoo & Body Art Expo, and especially the great folks at AWF Wrestling and Snake Charmer for the excellent performances which we captured. ThINK: Books & Tattoos - Katie
Image by Crossett Library Bennington College Two of my tattoos are based upon the written word. The first of the two is a line from a Denver spoken word poet by the name of Lenny C, an eighty year old man who lived in the capital of Colorado during the height of the Beat generation. The bohemian, activist spirit never left him and he continues to write new poems weekly on the back of receipts from his pizza delivery business, never to be officially published. The particular line of his I chose, "live free and love fearlessly," serves as a constant reminder to do just that - to live and love as never before. My second literary tattoo tends to garner quite a few funny looks - yes, it is the Dealthy Hallows symbol. I got the tattoo this past June after nearly a year of contemplation. I finally settled on getting the tattoo this past summer as the series came to its official close - the summer that happened to be the same summer before I left for Bennington, a time in which I felt my childhood was also coming to an official end. This is not to say that my childhood is over, however, and I feel the tattoo commemorates the idea that the magic of childhood (pun intended) never really ends.
